Capital C: Concerts grows the ROCK2WGTN brand by adding legendary ALICE COOPER to the opening night programme. Promoter
Phil Sprey announced the artist at midnight last night after promising that another major name would precede the VISA
CARD Pre sale on Monday Dec 17. “Alice was a real coop for us and will further make the Capital the only destination in
Easter 2008”, “Attention on our double back to back concerts is attracting attention and visitors from around the world.
Hotels are seeing bookings rolling in from as far away as Scandanavia, Canada and Argentina. And from across Australia
ex-pat Kiwis are planning to spend the long weekend with NZ family by returning home to catch the super rock event at
the Westpac Stadium.
Alice Cooper’s storied career has now spanned 5 decades, as hard as that is to believe. With a stage show that features
guillotines, electric chairs, fake blood and boa constrictors, Cooper drew equally from horror movies, vaudeville, heavy
metal and garage rock to create a theatrical brand of rock music that would come to be known as ‘shock rock’ and the
world of rock & roll would never be the same again.
Since their first single release in 1965, Cooper and his band have had a list of major hits including "I'm Eighteen",
"School's Out", “Welcome to My Nightmare”, “Only Women Bleed”, “(I Wanna be) Elected”, “No More Mr. Nice Guy” and
“Poison” all topping the charts around the world. .
Alice Cooper is known for his social and witty persona offstage, The Rolling Stone Album Guide going so far as to refer
to him as the world's most "beloved" heavy metal entertainer. He helped to shape the sound and look of heavy metal. He
is also credited as being one of the first to bring storylined theatrics to the rock/pop concert stage in the late
1960s.
Away from music, Cooper is a film actor, a golfing celebrity, a restaurateur and, since 2004, a popular radio DJ with
his classic rock shows "Nights with Alice Cooper" and "Breakfast with Alice". He also received a star on the ‘Hollywood
Walk of Fame’ in 2003.
