Avoid the Christmas Meltdown
As the Christmas rush moves up a notch, Relationship Services is reminding people that a few simple steps can make
Christmas more relaxing and enjoyable for everyone.
“Christmas is a time when relationships can be under enormous strain. People get very tired and often drink more. We
might end up saying or doing things that we wouldn’t normally. The reality of Christmas is often very different from the
picture we grow up with,” said Jeff Sanders, Relationship Services Chief Executive.
“Think about what is really important, and be realistic about what is achievable. Christmas is no fun for anyone if
people are exhausted.”
“Quite simple ideas can make a huge difference to whether Christmas is a fun time or something to be endured,” said Mr
Sanders. “Things like planning a tactful way to leave a social function if things get stressful, and making sure you
plan some time just for yourself this holiday.”

for everyone, no matter what their situation.
“Clients tell us how hard it can be to manage competing expectations from partners, friends and family at this time of
year.”
“We know it is a particularly difficult time for those parents who have recently separated. Our website has some really
good ideas for planning Christmas when parents live separately,” said Mr Sanders.
“There is no set formula, what’s important is that parents step back from their own needs and really and truly consider
what will work for their children.”
