Dobbyn Westenra duo to kick start concert series at Millbrook
Famous Kiwi musicians, Dave Dobbyn and Hayley Westenra are set to wow fans at the five-star Millbrook Resort on February 16.
Their ‘In Tune with Nature’ concert at Millbrook will be the first in a summer concert series to be staged around New Zealand.
Dobbyn and Westenra will perform together and separately with their own backing bands, collaborating on songs that stand the test of time including ‘Welcome Home’, ‘Oughta Be in Love, and Tim Finn’s ‘Six Months in Leaky Boat’.
An unlikely pairing, the two talented Kiwis first shared a stage in London four months ago to a standing ovation and struck an obvious chord as soon as the first duet began.
Millbrook General Manager Jan Hunt said the resort’s natural amphitheatres provided the perfect setting for the ‘In Tune with Nature’ theme.
“We’ve got an amazing venue here with open fields surrounded by beautiful hills and mountains,” she said. “The audience will be able to relax in the sunshine, and enjoy the concert mixed with spectacular scenery.”
Westenra’s successful career has seen her record the highest-selling record of all time in New Zealand. In Japan it’s the best-selling classical album in the country’s history and the fastest-selling classical debut in the UK.
Meanwhile Dobbyn, regarded as a national treasure in New Zealand, will soon turn his focus from past songs to future writing when he heads to London in March to record his new album.
The outdoor concert will be held at the new Gatehouse Driving Range (front corner of Millbrook) at 4pm, gates will be open from 2pm.
Tickets are $65 and go on sale Monday, December 17 from Ticketek and Ticket Direct. Gate sales will be available on the day, based on availability.
Concert goers will be able to bring food and sealed bottled water and Millbrook will have a range of quality food and beverage options available.
Dobbyn and Westenra will join a stellar lineup of previous musicians and bands to play at Millbrook including Bic Runga, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Chicago, The Beach Boys, and The Little River Band.
“You’d be mad not to catch these two great names on one outstanding bill,” said Ms Hunt.
