Jambalaya, NZ’s ‘Festival of Rhythm and Dance and Carnival’ in Rotorua from 4th-6th of January 2008, will feature one of
the most original and funky lineups this country has seen.

This year’s line up includes wildly successful Latin-hiphop-funk acts like Son Veneno, Watussi and BSM, the high energy gypsy sounds of Doch, and the infectious afro-soul sounds of Blue King Brown – who have recently toured the states with Michael Franti.
NZ’s own Katchafire, Ladi 6, and Batucada Sound Machine join the best from around the world in to create a festival supremely unique to NZ’s summer scene.
Not only can you soak up the great bands on offer, but you can participate in any of 50 different workshops over the
whole weekend – from dance, to Brazilian percussion to circus. The Jambalaya experience propels you into interaction
with musical energies from around the world.
Headlining is Monobloco, the eclectic, 10-piece samba percussion band direct from Brazil. These guys will be getting everyone’s groove on as
they bring us the best in all things Brazilian for the first time to New Zealand shores (www.monobloco.org). They not only take the main staqe, but will also be running workshops.
“The workshops are such a beautiful part of this event. People turn up and unexpectedly have the most amazing time at
the workshops – and they take this experience away with them,” says Heidi Hughes, festival director.
The festival will culminate in a massive street carnival parade. The highlight of the event for Rotorua City, dancers,
performers and musicians will adorn the main street of Vegas - including all of NZ’s samba groups, kapa haka, pacific
island performers, brass bands,
circus acts and much more.
