Classical Concerts on Triangle and Stratos Add Sparkle to Christmas-New Year Line-Up
A dazzling series of outstanding classical concerts led by world-renowned conductor Kent Nagano will be a highlight of
the Triangle Television and Triangle Stratos Christmas and New Year line-up.
The six concerts are part of the innovative 'KENT NAGANO CONDUCTS CLASSICAL MASTERPIECES' series which features the
Deutsches Symphonie Orchester performing major works by Richard Strauss, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Bruckner and
Mozart at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.
Highly-regarded for the technical and visual quality of the concert recordings, this series includes animated profiles
of these remarkable composers, and takes a behind-the-scenes look at the work of Kent Nagano and various superb
musicians.
Scheduled to broadcast on Triangle Television and Triangle Stratos after Christmas, the six classical concerts will be
from a live feed from German television station DW-TV. The concerts will be screened on Triangle Auckland and Triangle
Wellington at 7.30pm on December 26-28, and January 2-4; and at 5.30pm on Triangle Stratos from December 25 to December
28, and January 1-2.
Following the tradition of previous years, Triangle Television and Triangle Stratos have planned a feast of Christmas
films to tempt viewers. Family musical 'SANTA CLAUS AND SONS AND DAUGHTER' will screen on Christmas Day at 3pm, and cult
science-fiction movie 'SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS', considered one of the worst films ever made, will screen on
Boxing Day at 3pm.
From the regions, 'TV HAWKE'S BAY CHATROOM' will feature a round-up of clips from TV Hawke's Bay's daily interview show
in a 'BEST OF THE YEAR' series January. The programme screens each weekday night at 7.30pm on Triangle Stratos and at
5.30pm on Triangle Wellington.
Rodney-based Family Television Network will also take a look over events of 2007 in 'A YEAR IN REVIEW', which will
broadcast on Triangle Stratos over the summer months on Wednesdays at 8pm.
New Zealand-made programmes also feature highly in the Triangle Auckland, Wellington and Stratos Christmas line-ups with
highlights from the various cultural groups represented at the 2007 'ASB POLYFEST', one of the biggest Polynesian
festivals in the world. First to screen is the Maori stage scheduled for Christmas Day at 4.30pm, followed by the Tonga
stage at 5pm. Other stages are scheduled for: December 26 at 5pm, Niue; January 1 at 5pm, Cook Islands; and January 2 at
5pm, Samoa.
Showcasing the highly entertaining Auckland Secondary Schools' Cultural Festival comprising competitions, dance, kapa
haka and some truly amazing performances, ASB Polyfest gives secondary school students the opportunity to share and
promote their culture and heritage to a New Zealand-wide audience.
The New Year marks the start of two new series that will be compulsory viewing on long summer evenings.
GARDENWISE, an Australian hands-on series about gardening and garden design, will whet viewers' appetite for projects in
their own gardens, big or small. Produced and presented by Arlena Schott, the show is packed with tips, examples and
seasonal advice. It will screen on Triangle Stratos on Thursdays at 8.30pm from January 3; on Tuesdays at 7.30pm from
January 1 on Triangle Television Auckland, and at 5pm on Fridays from January 4 on Triangle Wellington.
A United Nations TV's series of news-magazine programmes, 21st CENTURY, puts the spotlight on the world's most
under-reported stories. Each episode features three to four character-driven, human interest stories. From child labour
situation in Tanzania to the frontline of the guerrilla war in Colombia, this series is there, reporting and bringing
home the stories viewers care about, but rarely see.
Triangle Stratos will screen 21st CENTURY on Monday nights at 8pm from December 31 and the series will screen on both
Triangle Auckland and Triangle Wellington on Fridays at 9pm from January 4.
These are not-to-be missed programmes!
