Spreading The Spirit of Christmas
Countdown stores nationwide are spreading the spirit of Christmas with the launch of their annual Toy Drive.
The Toy Drive, which is run in conjunction with The Salvation Army, aims to collect as many toys as possible to bring a little festive cheer to disadvantaged children all over New Zealand.
This year the Toy Drive runs until 16th December. Every Countdown store has a collection box and on 17th December, The Salvation Army offices nationwide will collect the donations from the stores for allocation to children and families in their area.
Leon van Rensburg, Countdown General Manager commented, “As the festive season approaches, it is important to remember those who may not have such a happy Christmas to look forward to. With the Toy Drive we aim to make the Christmases of as may disadvantaged children as possible that little bit brighter.”
Major Janee Sawyer, The Salvation Army’s Public Relations Officer for the Northern Region commented, “The Christmas season brings with it challenges to provide gifts and when household budgets don’t meet basic needs, presents for the children are often the first thing to go. We are very grateful to the Countdown stores for giving us the opportunity to spread the festive spirit to those in need.”
