1 - ONEFEST SERIES PART SIX!

Surf’s Up in Dunedin! Shed a salty excited tear right now. It is with great pride that Radio One announces the majestic return of CHRIS HEAZELWOOD to our town. Probably best known as the founding member & guitarist of seminal nz psy surf outfit KING LOSER, Chris is one guy that knows how to melt faces with his flame handed six stringed shenanigans. Come December the 14th the Crown Hotel is headed for a Sonic super-free hi-fi party. Hazelwood & his hand picked backing band of musical mutants round off this year’s Onefest Series in true summer wipeout styles.

2 - bNET NZ MUSIC AWARDS

The excitement at the 2007 bNet Awards was skyrocketing last Friday night. Radio One was there, at the grandiose Hopetoun Alpha in Auckland and so were all the bNet stars. There were kick-ass performances by the Phoenix Foundation, Pig Out, Surf City and the recently-reformed Garageland, if happiness was a drug there would be no need to snort it that night. The illustrious honour of the bNet Radio One Song of the Year award was bestowed on David Kilgour for his track 'BBC World'. Die! Die! Die! demonstrated wide-spread love by winning the bNet Rock Track of 2007 for '155' – another win for Dunedin. Yuss.

And it was Liam Finn who took out the awards in style; winning the bNet Pop Track of 2007, the bNet Song of the Year, the bNet Artist of the Year, and the bNet Album of the Year. Hopefully now his beard will be satisfied with his success and let him be.

With an average age of twelve and weighing in at a total of 120 lbs, Brooklyn's Tiny Masters Of Today are one of the youngest and tiniest bands toughing out the international club scene. Their debut is a stunning collection of songs that shows pop sensibilities that a group of any age strive for. Contributors include Russell Simins (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), Kimya Dawson (Moldy Peaches), Fred Schneider (B-52s), Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Karen O, and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs). Also, veteran Australian journalist Tracee Hutchison (from the incredible 3RRR.FM in Melbourne, and also a weekly columnist for the Melbourne Age) will be back to talk about the aftermath from Australia's federal government elections, Renee Jones brings her monthly roundup of indie success from the Independent Music New Zealand offices, and Sub Pop's founding father Jonathon Poneman talks about taking over the New Zealand pop and folk comedy scenes. Plus plenty of damn fine music and Mandroid's Tin Foil Hat. Sweet.

Friday – the best day of the week by far. What better way to head into your weekend than by tuning into the Friday morning spectrum & catching Old Fangled at 10.30am. Paris will tell us about 70s Australian punks The Saints and their debut 1977 album (I'm) Stranded and why they are hugely influential and why they aren't famous and why this album still sounds f**king great. (Paris is excited).

9 - NATURAL SELECTION – ‘Ghetto Women: The Finest in Female Rap’ w/ Manick & Michael Schraa. Sunday 25th November, 6 – 8pm,

To carve out as a space as a lady emcee, you have to think outside the box. So to speak. 10 – GLOBAL VILLAGE THIS WEEK

Senegalese music is probably some of the best known African music to reach Western ears. Traditional Senegalese music comes from the Mande music tradition and many modern Senegalese performers are descended from 14th and 15th century Mande griots (hereditary praise-singers). This week on Global Village Justine explores the traditional and not so traditional music from Senegal. 8 – 9pm on 91fm.
