Futsal Fever!
Local Wellington Futsal Team Competes in Oceania Selection Tournament.
Wellington – November 21, 2007 – Wellington’s representative Futsal Team – Capital Futsal will be competing in the
National Selection Tournament to be held at the ASB Stadium in Kohimarama, Auckland, over next weekend.
“Futsal training promotes techniques, tactics and teamwork” says Brian Blellock, Capital Futsal’s Coach “this benefits
both Futsal and the outdoor game”. Futsal (five–a-side indoor soccer) is one of the fastest growing games in the world.
Great soccer superstars such as Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and Juninho grew up playing the game and credit Futsal with
developing their skills. Futsal is played with a special low bounce ball, requiring players to use their skills, rather
than the ball's bounce, to propel it. Capital Futsal and Capital Soccer are building the game in Wellington by providing
demonstrations in local colleges and business house leagues to promote participation in the sport.
The national squad will be selected at the tournament for the National Men’s Futsal Team to compete in the Oceania
Football Confederation’s Futsal World Qualifying Tournament. Capital Futsal is currently placing a bid to host the OFC
Futsal World Qualifying Tournament in Wellington in July 2008. The winner of the OFC Futsal Tournament will then
represent Oceania at the Futsal World Cup to be held from 1 to 19 October 2008 in Brazil.
Registration for teams are now being accepted for the Capital Futsal's pre-Christmas and New Year's Leagues. Contact us
