Maori Writer's Residency Waiorua Bay, Kapiti Island Matariki 2008

Applications are invited for the inaugural 'Tau mai e Kapiti' Maori Writer's Residency, 2008. This is the first Maori
writer's residency in Aotearoa, and the first artist's residency of any kind to be offered on Kapiti Island.
The residency is funded by Te Waka Toi, supported and hosted by the Kaitiaki o Kapiti Trust. The chosen writer will live
on the northern end of Kapiti Island in stand-alone accommodation, sharing meals and some facilities with the host
families and visitors at the Kapiti Nature Lodge.
The 'Tau mai e Kapiti' residency will take place for eight weeks during Matariki, 2008. The exact dates for the
residency are 16 June to 8 August 2008. Applications will be taken from Maori writers aged 25 and over, writing in te
reo Maori or English, for children or adults, in the following genres: non-fiction, fiction, poetry or scripts,
waiata/songs.
The closing date for applications is 6 February 2008. The selection panel's decision will be announced on 10 April 2008.
