NZ’s leading pet store Animates donating money to six charities from sale of designer bowls
New Zealand’s leading pet store chain Animates is donating a slice of its sales to cat charities.
Pet food company Nestle Purina commissioned three prominent New Zealand fashion designers to create artwork to be
re-produced on their ceramic cat bowls.
The bowls are being sold exclusively throughout New Zealand through Animates and Jansens stores. The designers are
Trelise Cooper, Cybele and Liz Mitchell. The bowls will be in-store from today.
Proceeds from the sales are going to New Zealand cat charities that don’t usually receive funding.
The charities are Auckland Cat Rescue, Forgotten Felines (North Shore Auckland), Thames Animal Rescue, Wellington Cats
Protection League, Canterbury Cats Protection League and Cats Unloved (Christchurch).
Ten dollars from each ceramic bowl will be donated to the charities which are all run by volunteers and are supported by
members’ own incomes.
``The majority of these charities are dealing with over 500 cats on an annual basis. Their work is selfless and
ultimately goes unrecognised. We think this is brilliant for so many people,’’ Animates general manager Richard Bowker
said today.
``It’s great for the charities, it’s excellent for cat owners and we’re lucky Nestle Purina has been able to get Trelise
Cooper, Cybele and Liz Mitchell to design the bowls too.’’
Trelise Cooper said she was delighted to be invited to design a fancy feast cat bowl.
``It was a fun project to be a part of and with 100% of the profits going directly towards the rescue and care of
thousands of unwanted kittens and cats, how could I possibly resist,” Cooper said.
Animates has 13 stores in Auckland (5), Christchurch (3), Wellington (2), Tauranga, Palmerston North and Hamilton.
A 14th store is due to open in Albany before Christmas. Animates, a private company, recently merged with Jansens in
Auckland and they now employ more than 200 people.
