A big year for Plunket
"Plunket's centenary year has been very eventful", said Carol Becker, New Zealand President for Plunket at the Society's
Annual General Meeting in Wellington on Wednesday evening.
The repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act was a highlight for Plunket this year. Plunket, worked with many other
like-minded organisations to improve the safety and wellbeing of our children and will continue to ask the government to
consider children when making new legislation.
While celebrating being part of New Zealand communities for 100 years, Plunket continues to be the nation's leading Well
Child provider, seeing 91 per cent of all babies born in New Zealand.
Over the last year Plunket made a record 652,000 visits and contacts with young families and Plunket's care delivery
staff made 282,000 home visits and 240,000 clinic visits. PlunketLine, the free telephone advice service, responded to
55,000 phone calls from families.
The Society's Car Seat Rental Scheme now provides more than 27,000 restraints for hire around New Zealand. Plunket also
worked with thousands of families through its parenting programmes and other local services.
Plunket achieved positive financial results that leave the Society in an excellent position to move forward into the
next century.
Carol Becker said that Plunket's success is a tribute to the dedication of its workforce, paid and unpaid, for their
unswerving commitment to Plunket's vision and to all those in New Zealand who supported Plunket in getting the best
start for every child.
Plunket is looking forward to another successful year in supporting young families around New Zealand.
