Don Mcglashan To Perform At 25th Marlborough Wine Festival

Twenty five years after the first Wine Marlborough Festival, the 2008 event promises to be the biggest ever.
With more than 50 wineries displaying hundreds of wines, the 25th anniversary festival will take place on February 9
next year.
The Marlborough winegrowing region has changed dramatically since the festival began back in 1984, when there were only
three boutique wineries and three major Auckland based companies. These days the region boasts ten times more wineries
and is New Zealand’s most significant wine growing region.
While show casing the wines is the aim of the festival, organisers are also keen to promote home-grown talent. Renowned
singer-songwriter Don McGlashan will be one of the three main acts on the day.
As a former member of Blam Blam Blam, The Front Lawn and a founder of the Mutton Birds, McGlashan is one of the icons of
New Zealand music. His debut solo album Warm Hand was released last year, to critical acclaim. He was also responsible
for the score of Toa Fraser’s feature film No 2, and is currently working on the score for the television series Orange
Roughies.
Another major act on the day will be promising young band Kora, whose self titled debut album hit number one on the
charts, within days of being released last month.
Back by popular demand to join Kora and Don McGlashan will be the Beat Girls with their inimitable retro music mix.
One more major act is expected to be announced before Christmas.
The Wine Marlborough Festival will be held at Montana’s Brancott Estate, one of the most beautiful vineyards in the
country. Surrounded by some of the region’s oldest vines, the site provides guests with plenty of opportunity to meet
the winemakers, taste the wines and sample an array of culinary delights from Marlborough’s top chefs.
The $40 tickets for the Wine Marlborough Festival went on sale at the beginning of October and are selling fast. Tickets
