New Survey Says Hairy Men Unattractive To Kiwi Women
It might be Movember – the month to grow a moustache in support of men’s health – but when it comes to romance Kiwi women say no to the mo’ and prefer their men clean shaven.
New research commissioned by JOHNSON’S® Shower & Shave body wash and conducted by Consumer Link (a division of Colmar Brunton) showed the majority of Kiwi woman found a clean shaven man more attractive. According to the survey there is also no chance that we’ll be bringing hairy back!
Gone are the days when the 80’s saw Tom Selleck’s moustache made famous in cult series Magnum P.I., George Michael made stubble sexy as he worked the stage with hits like Faith and moustache loyalist Prince entertained adoring female fans. Times have changed and 75% of women say they find a clean shaven man most attractive. Stubble was second on just 8%, with a moustache on 7% and a beard on just 6%.
Movember is a charity event held annually during November to raise money for the number one male health issue, prostate cancer. At the beginning of Movember men register with a clean shaven face. They then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about men’s health issues as possible.
The survey also found that Kiwi women are clearly shaving loyalists, with nearly two thirds (65%) nominated shaving to be their most preferred method of leg hair removal, with waxing coming in second on 16%. Hair removal / depilatory creams took third place, with just 5% of New Zealand women saying they preferred this method.
The research showed nearly a third of New Zealanders (29%) rate All Black sex symbol Dan Carter as having the best pair of male legs in the country.
When it came to overseas stars Kiwis showed their appreciation for athletes, with Posh Spice’s hubby David Beckham winning the title for Best International Male Legs. Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt came in second on 14%, while George Clooney and Will Smith tied for third place on 12% and last on the list was Tom Cruise on 7%.

Sarah Ulmer came in with 37% of the female vote for Best Female Legs in New Zealand, with popular girl-next-door TV3 weather presenter Toni Marsh coming in at fourth place. All Black Captain Richie McCaw took out second spot for Best Male Legs on 21%.
New Zealander’s rated Tinseltown beauty Catherine Zeta Jones as the international female celebrity with the best legs, receiving 29% of the vote and blonde bombshell Cameron Diaz came second, on 22%. Brad Pitt’s current and former flames, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston, were third equal on 11%.
We’re also wising up to the benefits of self-tan, with 42% of Kiwi women saying they prefer to use self-tanning products, three times more than the number of women who said they use sunbeds (13%).
But according to the survey we’re still a nation of sun worshippers, with just over a fifth of the New Zealand female population saying they still tan under the sun, with 22% of those surveyed saying they sunbathed at least once or twice a month or more during summer months.
