Christchurch prepares for invasion
The Germans are coming. So too are the Japanese, the Brits, the Canadians, the Yanks, and the Irish.
And they’re coming armed - with show-stopping antics, slap-stick comedy, gravity-defying aerobatics and oodles of charm. They’re some of the best street performers in the world and they’ve been brought together for Christchurch’s World Buskers Festival in January.
It will be the 15th time Christchurch has hosted the festival and director Jodi Wright has been working overtime selecting the best performers from around the globe to help the city celebrate the milestone in style.
“We couldn’t celebrate the Festival’s 15th birthday without the Black Street Boyz because they are always such a hit with the crowds so they will be back again.
“Joining them is an amazing line-up of talented performers, many of whom are making their first appearance at the festival. These guys perform all around the world and are really looking forward to showing Kiwi crowds what they can do,’’ Jodi Wright says.
Among those acts now confirmed for the festival are:
The Ojarus (Japan)
Senmaru (Japan)
Klirr Deluxe (Germany)
Daredevil Chicken Club (Germany)
The Chipolatas (UK)
The Tumble Circus (Northern Ireland)
The Two Sopranos (UK)
The Piano Juggler (Canada)
Mr Bunk (Canada)
The Great Dave (Australia)
The Space Cowboy (Australia)
Roy Tukkers (Netherlands)
Flying the New Zealand flag at the festival are the Topp Twins and Wellington-based Fuse Productions.
