A sea of LEGO bricks covered lounge and bedroom floors of hundreds of LEGO enthusiasts throughout April as families
nationwide designed and perfected their LEGO creations hoping that their model would earn them the title of The National
LEGO Building Champion 2007.
Entry to the annual competition run through Toyworld stores was simple, build the creation of your dreams, take a photo
of the creation and bring it in to your local Toyworld store. Each of the 33 stores then chose a store winner who
received a $100 LEGO prize and went on to compete for the title of The National LEGO Building Champion 2007 as well as a
holiday for 2 adults and 2 children to the Gold Coast in Australia staying at the Sea World Resort, passes to Movie
World, Sea World and Wet ‘n’ Wild and $500 spending money.
Amy and Carl Williams - The National LEGO Building Champions 2007

Calls have flowed into Toyworld stores and the LEGO office from proud parents and excited entrants eager to find out if
their model had been chosen. Having waited patiently Amy (8) and Carl (9) Williams of Upper Hutt who entered the
competition at Toyworld Wellington were thrilled to discover they had been awarded the title of The National LEGO
Building Champions 2007. Amy and Carl spent two days during the school holidays with family friend Frank working on
their monstrous LEGO creation.
Inspired by a model Frank had built a few years earlier with his own daughter, the three set about using their
imaginations to build an enormous 6-foot high model that incorporated thousands of LEGO and Duplo bricks which has a
train that runs up and around the model, a train station, helicopter pad and even a princess castle
Amy and Carl are now excited about helping to plan their well earned holiday to the Gold Coast where the plane trip and
theme parks will be the highlights. Until then they will keep busy during the cold weather playing with their LEGO sets
and dreaming up new creations.
