MMF's First Back To Basics Seminar
The MMF's 'Back to Basics' series of seminars focuses on the fundamentals of artist management and is targeted at new managers or those more experienced mangers wishing to brush up on some basic skills. The series got off to a flying start with two well attended seminars in Auckland and Christchurch. The seminars covered essential topics such as band bio's, writing of press releases, interview skills and artist photography and were hosted by a range of industry guests:

MMF On-line Session with Brendan Smyth
The MMF recently held an on-line discussion with NZ On Air's New Zealand Music manager Brendan Smyth. Members were given the opportunity to talk with and ask questions of Brendan via the MMF websites Members forum. The sessions covered questions on funding, the Hit Disc, Radio pluggers abroad and NZ On Air's artist promo roadtrips. Brendan generously answered questions sharing his wealth of knowledge about the New Zealand music industry. For those of you who missed the session it is now available for review in the Members section of the MMF website.

Freedom Preston-Clark - Dukes
Dukes are to release their first single 'Always Forever' off their sophomore album at the beginning of April with the LP due for release later this year. Meanwhile the band is playing support for GOMEZ April 17th in Christchurch. Then off to Sydney at the end of April to be VIP's on the red carpet at the Australian Video Music Awards (AVMAs) as part of their prize for winning the New Zealand MTV Kickstart competition. MTV and Air New Zealand are hosting the world's first MTV Mile High Gig enroute to the AVMA's. The Mile High gig will see passengers rocking out to a live performance by Dukes in a mid-flight party before attending the awards ceremony in Sydney on April 29th.
Veronica Herber - dDub
dDub are about to embark on their very first Australian tour. Tour dates are as follows:

Sydney - The Landsdowne Hotel - Sun 29th April

Carla Potter - Gasoline Cowboy
Gasoline Cowboy have just signed a publishing deal with Native Tongue and have also recently returned from a hugely successful tour at SXSW
Teresa Patterson - The Have / Scribe / Blindspott / Elemeno P / Carly Binding
Elemeno P, Blindspott and Carly Binding performed at the recent SXSW festival. Following SXSW Carly played at the Viper Room and Elemeno P at the Gig on Melrose. Both bands performed at the NZTE showcase at the Hotel Café to music publishers and music supervisors. Elemeno P went onto New York and London where they played further shows.
The Have released their debut album “Back to the Burning Wreck” that received a glowing 4 star review from Groove Guide and the band made the cover of the NZ Musician Magazine.
Ayesha Kee - 4 Corners
4 Corners will be performing in Vientiane, Laos in South East Asia on the 6th and 7th April 2007. Telecommunications Company Millicom Laos are re-branding their product to Tigo, which is throughout Africa and South America. Their slogan for their re-branding campaign is “Open up Your World” hence employing the talents of 4 Corners to perform. While in Laos 4 Corners are planning to go into the studio with one of Laos top rap groups, L.O.G’s.
Also 4 Corners have just released their debut album The Foundations in Australia through Grindin’ records which comes under the Central Station Records umbrella. They completed a mini Australian tour doing 8 performances over 9 days. It was 4 Corners first venture into Australian territory and they have had a positive response. During their time in Australia they were also the guest speakers at some youth workshops in West Sydney working along MC Trey and DJ Nick Toth. Their highlight of their trip was filming for MTV’s programme The Lair which also featured on the bill Princess Superstar and Something for Kate. The Lair was live to air in Australia and was also broadcast in NZ and the UK.
4 Corners have also completed their 5th video for the track “Get Back Down” featuring Tyra Hammond with the help of Director Sam Tozer and production company Brownstreet. This track has received great airplay so keep an eye out on TV for the brand new video.
Matiu Sadd - The WBC
The WBC recently supported Reel Big Fish (USA) at the Kings Arms on March 27th and have an Australian tour scheduled from May 3rd - 14th.
Helen Welch - Brutally Frank
Brutally Frank are celebrating having just won this round of The Rock Scholarship.
