Maori Television Stages ANZAC Concert In Auckland
A free concert showcasing songs from the Vietnam War era will be filmed at Auckland’s Museum of Transport and Technology
(MOTAT) by Maori Television as part of its all-day ANZAC broadcast on Wednesday April 25.
Open to members of the public, the concert will feature Che Fu, Frankie Stevens, Russell Harrison, Midge Marsden, Matt
Saunoa, Indira Moala, The Ladykillers, Betty Anne Monga from Ardijah, Billy TK Senior and Junior, Jamoa Jam and a band,
Superhighway. Musical director Eddie Rayner is at the helm of the show and the presenter is Temuera Morrison.
Producer Jo Raj says the event will be staged in a huge hangar at MOTAT’s Western Springs site. Gates open at 4.00 PM,
recording takes place from 5.00 PM to 7.00 PM, and the result will screen on Maori Television at 8.00 PM.
“The concert is a celebration of the ANZACs and is designed around a theme of 'entertaining the troops' during the
Vietnam War era, so performances feature the songs of the 1960s and 1970s.”
Concert tickets are limited to 1,000 and are available from MOTAT's souvenir shop, 805 Great North Road, Western
Springs, Auckland, from Thursday April 19 until ANZAC Day. There is a limit of four tickets per person.
Judy Bailey will be joined by Julian Wilcox this year to co-host Maori Television’s ANZAC coverage on Wednesday April
25, which begins at 5.30 AM, while Wena Harawira will report from the Gallipoli peninsula on the experiences and
emotions of the many New Zealanders that attend the ANZAC services.
As well as veteran interviews, dawn services, debates and discussions, this year’s broadcast – NA RATOU, MO TATOU: LET’S
HONOUR THEM TOGETHER – includes an inaugural ANZAC address by a prominent New Zealander and a critically acclaimed
documentary, GALLIPOLI, by Turkish filmmaker Tolga Ornek.
