Cadbury Dream Model Search 2007
The hunt for New Zealand’s next top model kicks off next month, with a nationwide search for sweet young things keen to
live the dream.
The Cadbury Dream Model Search, New Zealand’s largest and only televised model search, is open to young women aged 13 to
24 and takes to the streets in May searching for those hopefuls who have what it takes for a career in modelling.
Ten regional auditions will be held throughout New Zealand, two more than last year with events added in New Plymouth
and Rotorua. Around 800 girls are expected to turn out for the auditions, up on the record 700 involved in last year’s
event.
Competition organiser and Director of Nova Models, Talent & Actors, Caroline Barley, says organisers are looking for gorgeous, confident, sophisticated young women with the right
look, personality and attitude for a successful career in modelling.
“Professional modelling today is a viable career full of challenge, international travel and good rewards, and the
winner of the Cadbury Dream Model Search really will be given some amazing opportunities.
“We’ve already discovered some incredible talent through the search, such as last year’s winner Katie Tomlinson from
Dunedin, Aucklander Allie Jensen who won the previous year, and rising star Grace Hobson who was also discovered through
the search. All three are having success both in New Zealand and internationally.
“But it’s not just the overall winners that do well. Many of last year’s finalists also received contracts with Nova and
have been getting some great work over the past year.”
So who will go on to live the dream this year?
The overall winner of the Cadbury Dream Model Search will have their modelling career launched in New Zealand by Nova
Models, Talent & Actors, and will be flown to Sydney, all-expenses paid, to meet with top modeling agency Vivien’s Model Management for
a test shoot with a top Australian fashion photographer.
The prize also includes Cadbury Dream chocolate gift basket , flowers, a $1000 Jeanswest wardrobe, and a $1000
scholarship for future travel with international manager and model placement agency Michael Hooker International (MHI).
What does it take to impress the judges? Caroline says it’s not just beauty and height, but also having the right
personality, a unique look that’s right for fashion and that special something that makes someone stand out.
“There’s no one look with trends changing from year-to-year and different requirements for each job and market. Beauty
comes in so many shapes and forms, from cute to sultry, quirky to classic.
“Models don’t have to be super tall either. Several finalists from last year who are getting lots of work are only 5
foot 8. So even if you think you’re too short or not the right shape or look, come along to an audition. We’re looking
for lots of different things so you never know.”
Both Caroline and co-judge Michael Hooker will be at each of the ten regional auditions to meet with hopefuls. “That’s
the part we both enjoy the most, it’s great getting to meet all the girls and discover new talent” says Caroline.
The Cadbury Dream Model Search will follow a new process to pick the winner this year, with the top five girls selected
and announced at the conclusion of each regional audition. From the 50 semi-finalists, 12 will then be chosen to compete
in the July 5 final in Auckland. The finalists will be announced on air on The Edge on the evening of Tuesday 29 May.
Now in its fifth year, the Cadbury Dream Model Search will be televised on C4 in an hour-long show airing the week after
the final. A new website www.cadburydreammodelsearch.co.nz will have regular updates with more opportunities for public
participation with a ‘Peoples Choice Award’ and competitions.
To enter the Cadbury Dream Model Search, girls just have to fill out an entry form and take it to their nearest audition
along with three photos (as specified in the terms & conditions). Entry forms are available from supermarkets, at www.cadburydreammodelsearch.co.nz and at Jeanswest stores
nationwide.
Entrants living outside of the audition locations can fill out the entry form and send it with three photos to: Cadbury
