Snow Patrol
In 2006 Snow Patrol are fulfilling the greatness they threatened with their two million selling Final Straw album from 2004. This years breathtaking Eyes Open album (Universal) has taken Snow Patrol firmly into the arena league, selling out tours everywhere and topping the album charts in New Zealand, the UK and Ireland.
Snow Patrol have deservedly joined rock’s elite and their gorgeous, heartfelt and poignant songs have struck a particularly loud chord in New Zealand where their album is already double platinum. So it gives us tremendous delight, not to mention a real thrill in announcing……
Snow Patrol will play at the Trusts Stadium Arena, Waitakere, Auckland on Thursday February 22nd in an exciting double whammy of firsts: the band’s first visit to New Zealand and The Trusts first rock concert.
Its been an amazing couple of years for Gary Lightbody and his band which has included winning an Ivor
Novello for Final Straw, playing with U2 on the European Vertigo tour and playing at the landmark Live 8 concert in London’s Hyde Park. Snow Patrol are the names on the lips and their music has gone global.
The recent single Chasing Cars (“the most pure and open love song I’ve ever written”) is an instantly recognisable worldwide radio hit which even saw Snow Patrol become the first UK guitar band to go Top 5 in the USA in 13 years! The song also featured in the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, which recently screened in New Zealand and helped the album become a fixture in the NZ Top 10 for months.
Never losing sight of their core values: beautiful melodic songs underpinned by anthemic keys, soft guitar and luscious vocals, this is Snow Patrol. With some of the most poignant and telling lyrics in rock, this exceptional band deliver the big music with a sense of dignity, emotion and tremendous power.
"There are swaggering bands, bands who are in your face. And then there are bands who get hold of you somewhere else. I think its a heart thing, an intimacy thing. Like you know them and they know you. I think we are one of those bands."
For those of you with post U2 blues, for those of you disappointed that Coldplay are not coming, here are some tickets you CAN get you hands on! Beware though, Snow Patrol shows do SELL OUT and you should secure your purchase immediately. (The recently announced Australian dates were gone within 48 hours).
The Trusts Stadium Arena, Waitakere, Auckland is situated at 65 – 67 Central Park Drive, off Lincoln Road on the North Western Motorway (#16). Doors will open at 6pm, there will be two opening acts and Snow Patrol will be on stage around 9pm. Floor tickets will operate under a freeflow system whereby ticket holders can choose between seats or standing, or indeed alternate between sitting and standing should they wish.
