Star Studded Cast At The Tower Design Marquee
Judging at the Ellerslie International Flower show has now been concluded with the TOWER Design Marquee entries winning a Bronze and two Gold Awards. Reflections on a Black Landscape, a dark and moody garden inspired by Jane Campion’s film The Piano; Pavlova’s Paradise, which takes a nostalgic look at 1950s New Zealand have both won gold medals, with A Slice of Heaven inspired by the iconic New Zealand cartoon Footrot Flats taking out a bronze.
The TOWER Design Marquee is used as a stepping stone into the industry by many graduate students. The exhibits, this year themed New Zealand Film in Garden has inspired the design of the entries to the TOWER Design Marquee, showcasing TOWER’s silver sponsorship of the 2006 Ellerslie International Flower Show. All entrants competing must be either a student or have been in the business less than five years since graduating.
Leading the judging panel for the TOWER Design Marquee was Radio Live’s night time host Marcus Lush. In his twenty year history in media, Lush has been involved in the radio, film and television industries and understands the complexity of the mediums. Lush was highly impressed by the creativity and standard of execution of the exhibits in the TOWER Design Marquee.
"While actors, producers and directors work across a plethora of different mediums to produce a film, landscape artists have only a small percentage of those tools with which to create their message and design," says Lush.
"The designs we have been privy to today are indeed impressive, not only in their execution, but also in their attention to detail and the obvious flair and creativity that has gone into every aspect of the work."
TOWER Insurance CEO Mr Pieter Lindhout was also highly impressed. "We hope that the TOWER Design Marquee inspires and encourages emerging landscape artists to push the boundaries of what is possible – highlighting what imagination is all about. We are delighted with the designs and congratulate our Gold and Bronze Award winners on their results as well as all who have participated."
The TOWER Design Marquee will be on show at this year’s Ellerslie International Flower Show (15–19 November), which opens to the public on Wednesday 15 November 2006 at the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens.
The Ellerslie International Flower Show is now the largest horticultural event in Australasia with last year’s show seeing attendance figures of over 60,000 visitors. The 2006 show will truly be a Sight To Behold with new gardens, new plants, new features and show stopping highlights.
