New Zealand’s Biggest Café Opens
New Zealand’s biggest-ever coffee festival has turned Auckland’s North Harbour Stadium into the country’s biggest café.
New Zealand’s third annual Wild Bean Café Coffee Festival & Awards has attracted many of the country’s leading coffee roasting companies who are serving coffee non-stop over the weekend to the thousands of coffee lovers expected to converge on the stadium.
A record 60 coffee roasting companies have entered around 200 coffee blends in the New Zealand coffee awards, being judged by a team of international and local judges.
The festival is also hosting the world’s richest barista prize on Sunday with the six man Australian barista team The Baristaroos taking on New Zealand’s The Huhtamaki Black Cups for a $7,000 first prize.
After the first “test” in Australia last week, the teams are level at 1-1.
The festival, aimed at coffee lovers, café goers and coffee professionals, is also hosting the finals of the National Barista Awards on Saturday sponsored by Robert Harris which chooses a winner to compete in the World Barista Championships in Japan next year.
The festival opens Friday to Sunday, November 10-12, from 9.30am.
