Short Film Festival Tickets Now On Sale!
The Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival is your chance to see the best Kiwi and Aussie shorts, most of which have never played in NZ before.
This festival takes place at Academy Cinemas over the weekend of Friday 24th to Sunday 26th of November. The program is on line at www.showmeshorts.co.nz.
Tickets are $12 ($20 for opening night films and party) and available now from Academy Cinemas by visiting them in Lorne Street, or calling 09 373 2761 to book.
The Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival will showcase 50 short films sourced from around NZ and Australia, ten of which are world premieres.
The line-up also includes multi-award winners such as ‘The Mechanicals’, which recently screened at the Venice Film Festival, and ‘Wobbegong’, which will screen in Cannes next year.
18 of the 50 films are made by Kiwis, with the remaining 32 from Australia. Programming Director Katrin Hagen says, “The standard of films we received was very high, and we’re really proud to be presenting such a diverse range of well crafted and entertaining short films.”
“From the multi-award winning ‘After Dolly’, a hilarious claymation about genetic engineering, to ‘Vend’, the whimsical sci-fi/fantasy about a vending machine that won the St Kilda Short Film Festival earlier this year, there’s something for everyone. We’ve grouped them into themed sessions to make it easier to choose which to see.”
Tipped to be hot favourites are many of the shortest films, such as the timely ‘Last Stop’, which deals with our fear of terrorism. ‘Thursday’ is an experimental narrative which plays backwards to identify the moment that changed two lives forever, and Grant Lahood’s ‘Chop Off’ is a comedy set at a wood chopping competition.
Judges Taika Waititi (Two Cars, One Night), Kate Rodger (TV3 Film Critic), Michael Eldred (Dendy Films) and Mairi Gunn (Cinematographer) will have their work cut out for them selecting the winner of the $5,000 prize for Jameson Best Film.
The Jameson Show Me Shorts Film Festival is New Zealand’s only trans-Tasman short film festival. The event will take place over the weekend of Friday 24th to Sunday 26th of November at Auckland’s Academy Cinemas.
