NZ Filmmaker Wins Scholarship And Launches Fundraising To Produce Film And Campaign Supporting Grandmothers
At a special event hosted by AMP Financial Services, Qiujing Wong (Q) from Borderless Productions was awarded one of twelve scholarships to help launch a unique filmmaking endeavour in Africa.
The scholarship will support Q, her partner Dean and their team of volunteers as they embark on their global campaign to
bring awareness to the grandmothers of Africa and around the world who care for orphaned children. The first part of the
project entitled 'A Grandmother’s Tribe' is to travel to Kenya, Africa and capture the voices of the grandmothers there on film.
On returning to NZ at the end of December this year, the team will put together a film for the world to see, and begin
the fundraising and awareness building.
All net proceeds from film sales and fundraising activity will be used to support the grandmothers in the film and
around the world.

The grandmothers of Africa are the unsung heroes in a society crippled by poverty and disease. The normal cycle of
African life is being turned on its head as parents in their twenties and thirties are being killed by HIV/AIDS and
hunger leaving behind as many as 30 children in the care of the surviving grandmother. At risk of being left to die
alone in their homes, these children have one last stop – their grandmothers' homes and hearts. About the Film ‘A Grandmother's Tribe’ is a documentary film that for the first time ever, gives the grandmothers of Africa a voice.
It will not only touch the hearts of grandmothers around the world, but also anyone who has or has had a grandmother. It
is a story of love, tenderness, courage and loss.
