Lifeguards Are Go
Labour Weekend saw the official start of summer and already the Northern Region surf lifeguards were busy with 12 rescues, 490 preventative actions and 14 first aid incidents over the long weekend. The rescues took place at Piha, Mangawhai Heads and Raglan.
Northern Region Surf Lifeguards are now on patrol every weekend and public holiday until Easter 2007 and the patrolled beaches are Bethells Beach, Ahipara (Far North), Karekare, Kariaotahi, Mairangi Bay, Mangawhai Heads, Muriwai, Omaha, Orewa, Piha, Raglan, Red Beach, Ruakaka, Sunset Beach, United North Piha, Waipu Cove and Whangarei Heads.
Surf Life Saving Northern Region CEO Steve Johns says that if there is one message he would like to get across to the 50,000 people who visit northern region beaches daily over summer it is to swim between the red and yellow flags at a surf lifeguard patrolled beach.
