NZ Idol: and then there were two
The top 2 Idols, Indira Moala (21 years from Glen Eden, Auckland) and Matt Saunoa (21 years from Levin) are battling it
out for the title of NZ Idol.
On Monday 23rd October at 7.30pm on TV2, the final two contestants will go head-to-head in a live concert at the Bruce
Mason Theatre in Auckland. Â Indira and Matt will be performing a range of songs from past weeks and will, for the first
time, sing the NZ Idol winner’s single.
Then on Sunday 29th October at 7.30pm on TV2 the top 2 Idols will be joined in the Grand Final by this year’s other top
10 contestants to perform a range of songs in a star-studded, two hour special at the Auckland’s St James Theatre,
culminating in host Dominic Bowden revealing who New Zealand has voted to be this year’s NZ IDOL.
Matt and Indira say that it is a dream come true being in the final of NZ Idol.
“I want to thank all my fans and family that have helped me get this far,” says Matt
Indira adds “I am so ecstatic to be in the final, I really want to make all my family, friends and supporters proud.”
Judge Megan Alatini admits NZ IDOL has been a rollercoaster ride with some interesting experiences along the way.
“I can’t believe we have finally got down to the top two it seems like it was only yesterday when we started the first
auditions,” she laughs, “I think, we the judges, have disagreed a few times with the New Zealand public’s decisions
regarding the top 10 contestants but I do believe that we do have the two most consistent and dedicated performers left
and it’s going to be a tough competition to chose a winner.”
Megan says that she has been impressed with how the top 2 Idols have handled the pressure of New Zealand’s most popular
musical show.
“I know from first-hand experience, that making a television programme is hard work as you have so many factors such as
cameras, directors, stylists and publicity to consider, not just learning and singing new songs in front of a live
audience two nights a week! The two Idols are handling their nerves and the pressure outstandingly, as well as stepping
up the calibre of performance each week,” says Megan
Frankie Stevens thinks that this year NZ Idol has produced the best talent to date.
“I have been really impressed with the calibre of talent we have seen from all over the country. Â We the judges were
all incredibly focussed on finding the best singers to carry on in the competition. As a result, we have the strongest
two Idols left in the competition," he says.
Frankie Stevens is looking forward to finding out who New Zealand will choose as their next Idol. “The remaining Idols
have proven to viewers that they are worthy finalists,” he says. “I’m sure that New Zealand is going to have an Idol
that will do us proud.”
