OxJam - Make Poverty History

Published: Thu 19 Oct 2006 09:37 AM
Don McGlashan's Nelson shows (Sat and Sun 8pm St Johns) are part of the Oxfam 'Make Poverty History Campaign called Oxjam. Anika Moa's gig on Thursday night at the Phat Club is also part of this.
Here's some info and QUOTE FROM DON:
From October 1, a wide range of gigs will take place throughout New Zealand. Musicians and entertainers will be performing in support of Oxfam¹s party against poverty and members of the public are encouraged to organise their own Oxjam events. Live8 gave the public the chance to watch some of the biggest names in music perform, with Oxjam everyone gets to be on stage. Oxjam is the first event of its kind that allows everyone around New Zealand to be involved. Already 100 events have registered to Oxjam, and the list is growing with great acts like Blindspott, The Bleeders, Dimmer, Anika Moa, Don McGlashen and Ddub already on board.
Don McGlashan says: "Right now, the world spends on weapons about 12 times what it spends on aid. That's insane. But you can do something. In between meetings with the Exclusive Brethren, politicians have to listen to voters, so vote with your feet this October, and come out to an OXJAM gig near you.
Oxfam is one of the oldest and coolest aid agencies, and they deserve your support. OXJAM. It's your chance to add your voice to the Make Poverty History movement, and you can get drunk and fall over at the same time. "
