Voting for TV Guide Awards proves the oldies are still goodies
Voters are choosing New Zealand's long-time television stars over newbies for this year's TV Guide Best on the Box People's Choice Awards.
Long-time Fair Go presenter and reporter Kevin Milne is currently leading the Best Presenter category for the 2006 Awards, and won the same category last year. He beats out newer faces including NZ Idol presenter Dominic Bowden.
A familiar face to many viewers, Kevin has worked in news, current affairs and now consumer affairs, for more than 30 years. He is renowned for his work on Fair Go, where he has been fighting for consumer's rights for almost as long as the show has been on air.
Simon Dallow, another long-time TV personality, currently leads the Sexiest Man category - he also won the category last year. Simon holds the lead over relative newcomer Shane Cortese of Shortland Street and Dancing with the Stars fame.
TV Guide editor Julie Eley says, "Voting to date proves New Zealand viewers value familiar faces. It also proves that viewers appreciate the 'elder statesmen' of New Zealand television - talented individuals who show they can go the distance."
"Its still not too late to vote - and nothing is final yet. I encourage all fans of New Zealand television to show their support for their favourite TV stars."
Voters can make their picks online at www.tv-guide.co.nz/BOTB or by using the special voting form included in the TV Guide issue on sale October 12. All voters go in the draw to win a major HP prize pack valued at $3000.
The TV Guide Best on the Box People's Choice Awards give Kiwis an opportunity to vote for their favourite TV stars across a range of categories, including Best News Presenter, Sexiest Woman, and Funniest Person on TV.
TV Guide is New Zealand's top selling weekly magazine, featuring TV listings ahead of any other publication. The Best on the Box Awards results will be published in the TV Guide issue on sale November 9.
