$6.9 Million Powerball Prize Winning Ticket Left In Car
The winning $6.9 million Lotto Powerball ticket sat in its owner's car for several days before he realised it was the
winner and claimed his prize, NZ Lotteries Chief Executive, Todd McLeay, said today.
"I watched the draw live on Saturday night, but I had left my ticket in the car. I didn't think I had any winning
numbers so I didn't bother getting it out," said the winner.
"It was only on Monday night, when I finally took my ticket inside and checked it against the Lotto results online, that
I realised I had won.
"I checked the numbers and thought I didn't have anything, but as I reached the third line I thought 'nah, that can't be
right.'
"I called in my wife to check, and then she called in our son, and by then it finally sunk in that we had won the big
one.
"I don't think we'll be splashing out. I'm still the same person and I'm not worried that this will change me, this just
takes the pressure off and gives us a bit of freedom.
"We're just going to enjoy this with our family, my thoughts are for my kids and my grandkids," said the winner.
The total prize of $6,939,991 is the third largest Lotto Powerball prize this year, and the twelfth largest prize in NZ
Lotteries' history. The prize consists of $6,439,991 from winning Powerball First Division and $500,000 from also
winning Lotto First Division, which was shared with one other winner.
The winning ticket was sold at Milton Street Store in Nelson.
