BG New Plymouth World Cup Postponement

MEDIA STATEMENT
16 October 2006
Issued by Triathlon NZ Chief Executive Officer Dave Beeche
“New Zealand has not missed out on holding the BG New Plymouth World Cup event due to lack of funding, as stated by some media outlets.
“Triathlon New Zealand in cooperation with relevant stakeholders actively chose to postpone the 2007 event previously scheduled for November of that year, in preference for holding it in March 2008”.
“The reason behind this decision was due to a number of associated benefits for both athletes and New Zealand. Holding the event in the summer months allows Triathlon New Zealand to more effectively link with the ITU BG Mooloolaba World Cup event in 2008. This event will be held two weeks prior to the New Plymouth race guaranteeing more international athletes at both events due to their close proximity.”
