Michael Hill violinist wins Premio Paganini Competition
FENG NING, the winner of the 2005 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, has just won the prestigious Premio
Paganini Competition in Genoa.
The Paganini Competition, like the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, has quickly established itself as one
of the most important violin competitions in the world, and has acted as an effective springboard for the future
artistic careers of many of the world’s greatest violinists.
Director of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Anne Rodda, said “Feng was a stand out talent throughout
the entire competition. We could all see he was an extraordinarily gifted musician when we first heard him in 2005 and
then again this year for his Winner’s Tour. Winning this latest major competition reinforces that this 25 year old is
destined for great things. It is also further recognition that the Michael Hill International Violin Competition is
attracting musicians of the very highest calibre.”
The Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra has also recognised the extraordinary violinist that Feng is and has engaged him to
perform Saint-Saëns’ Violin Concerto No.3 in the Orchestra’s APN News & Media Premier Series on Thursday 21 June. APO CEO Barbara Glaser says that Feng’s concert with the APO this year during
the Winner’s Tour has been one of the highlights of the year. “Feng is an outstanding musician. He communicates
musically and expressively in a way that is very compelling. Next year’s concert will certainly be one not to miss.”
