PRESS RELEASE STARTS:
Two quite different genres of New Zealand music will meet in a concert hosted by Nova Strings .
The Lower Hutt-based string orchestra conducted by Stephen Lange consists of players from around the Wellington region.
They will play three waltzes and the Finale from David Farquhar's Ring Round The Moon Suite, Larry Pruden's Dances of
Brittany and two works from Eric Biddington: his Suite for String Orchestra (1985) and his Concerto for Flute and String
Orchestra.
The flute soloist for the latter work will be Amanda O'Connor, also well known in Wellington as half of the singing /
songwriting duo The O'Connors. With her husband Sean, the Kiwi couple have recently returned from Nashville USA to
continue their musical activities in the Creative Capital. In addition to the more ‘classical’ pieces above, members of
Nova Strings will join The O’Connors in performing three of their songs: Butterfly's Wing, Where I'm Standing Now and
Wild Young Rovers.
The concert will be held at Wellington Central Baptist Church, 46 Boulcott Street, Wellington on Wednesday 18 October
from 8pm. Entry is by koha (donation) at the door.
