MotorSport New Zealand has been deeply saddened by the death of former New Zealand competitor Mark Porter as a result of
a devastating accident in the development class for the V8 Supercars at Bathurst on Friday.
On behalf of all members of the motorsport fraternity in New Zealand I extend our deepest sympathy to Mark’s wife
Adrienne and their young child, and to Mark’s parents Robin and Robyn and brother Andrew.
Mark was a member of a motor racing family with both his father Robin a former champion and brother Andrew the current
Truck Racing Champion.
He was a great competitor in the TraNZam class in New Zealand and was showing considerable promise in his bid to drive
in V8 Supercars in Australia. He was a very proud Kiwi and always flew the New Zealand flag with pride. To compete at
Bathurst is the pinnacle for many motorsport competitors and Mark was living his dream.
His death is doubly tragic for his family as I am sure Robin would have been looking forward to seeing both Mark and
brother Andrew, who races in the NZV8s compete in the V8 Supercar meeting in Hamilton next year.
