The Dogs prepare for Shootout on Friday
Greyhound Racing New Zealand will hold its most unusual event of the year, the Oxyshot New Zealand Shootout , this
Friday 6 October at Manukau Stadium. The race will see four of New Zealand's top greyhounds compete for a
winner-takes-all $40,000 prize.
The four dogs and their trainers to compete in this race for the finish include: Big Sam Junior and Cawbourne Baron
bothtrained by Huntly's Andrew and David Schofield, Thrilling Louie trained by Tirau's Karen Walsh and Winsome Gem,
trained by David and Jean Fahey from Amberley.
GRNZ chief executive Lance Bickford said the Oxyshot Shootout is essentially a grudge match between New Zealand's
leading trainers and is designed to give the trainers a chance to highlight their top greyhounds. It also gives
participants and spectators an opportunity to experience greyhound racing for what it really is - an exciting, highly
competitive sport with strong entertainment value.
"This is the third year that the Shootout has been held and it continues to grow in numbers on-course and in turnover
each year. It's not only the racing that people come along to see – the entertainment and feeling on-course makes the
evening an enjoyable night out – especially so if your dog wins!"
"There is a 'surprise' finalist in the field this year so it will be interesting to see how the race goes. I would
encourage anyone who has never attended a greyhound event before to come along and give it a go – there's no better
event to experience the action," he said.
In addition to the ten greyhound races that will be held during the evening, on-course entertainment will include
musical entertainment by NR Connection who will be playing from 9pm. There is also an opportunity to win a City
Experience Package at Skycity Hotel.
The Oxyshot Shootout will be race 8 of 10 being held at the Auckland Greyhound Racing Club, Manukau Stadium, Te Irirangi
Drive, Manukau on Friday 6 October 2006 starting at 5:30pm.
