TEAR Fund Press Release:
For Immediate Release: 02/10/06
New Zealand favourites Steve Apirana & Derek Lind Touring the Deep South
Flying in the face of a devastating accident, Steve Apirana and Derek Lind, two of this nation’s most talented singer-songwriters, are revisiting their favourite New Zealand venues on a tour of the South Island. Derek and Steve are both great entertainers and passionate TEAR Fund supporters.
Derek has been described as “One of our most consistently literate yet most affecting lyricists", while his last album was critically acclaimed. His music has exceptional depth, honesty and the raw power of Bob Dylan.
Steve, an Australian-based kiwi, is a renowned blues and rock’n’roll player. Also a much loved musician, he is returning to perform not long after a car accident almost claimed his life – hence the name of the tour. After a grueling rehabilitation, Steve says he is delighted to finally be on the road again.
“I like touring New Zealand,” says Steve, “Seeing my mates and family, keeping in touch. These are my people.”
You can never be too sure of what will happen at this duo’s concerts: Derek and Steve certainly don’t know. One thing you can be guaranteed of is a night of fun, family-friendly entertainment. There are no pretensions about Derek or Steve; they are just classic kiwi performers.
The concerts are free. Donations at the concerts will be accepted to support TEAR Fund’s work empowering communities in the developing world. For a full tour itinerary visit: www.tearfund.org.nz
