Beginning this week:
Local professional choreographer Julia Sadler presents the Christchurch premiere of her ground-breaking work, Moth. See
dancers scan the floor, scale the walls, and traverse the ceiling of Christchurch’s most intriguing underground
performance space. This sold out in Auckland! Book now: tickets are very limited. Wednesday 27th September – Sunday 1st
October, 8:00pm, at Nibelheim (below SoFA gallery, The Arts Centre). $20 (includes refreshments) from Court Theatre.
Award-winning multimedia production company Daniel Belton and Good Company bring a rare retrospective of all their work
from the last two years to Christchurch for two screenings only! Athletes of the Imagination is an extraordinary
programme of five short films, each intertwining human movement with fine arts. Between them the first four have made
official selection for 25 major international festivals. And the fifth is a world premiere! Wednesday 27th September,
4:00pm & 6:00pm, at the Philip Carter Auditorium, Christchurch Art Gallery. $10 on the door or presales from Court Theatre.
Wanna see some sexy chicks in their Fishnets? Bipeds Productions stir up the Southern Ballet Theatre with Fishnet, a
rapturous exploration of the mature dancing body by two of NZ’s most celebrated senior contemporary dancers: Lyne
Pringle and Kilda Northcott. Roll up for this slow strip around the politics of dance, age, and the invisibility of the
older woman. Thursday 28th September – Sunday 1st October, 8:00pm, at Southern Ballet. $18 & $15 concessions from Ticketek.
Finally, mixed-ability dancer and film producer Bronwyn Hayward rounds off the Festival with her unforgettable short
film BEAUTY. Capturing a compelling and moving semi-biographical tale of a woman who dreams of becoming a dancer but is
told “disabled people don’t dance”; Bronwyn will also be in attendance to lead discussion, asking “What is Dance?”.
Sunday 1st October, 6:00pm at the Great Hall. $10 from Court Theatre.
