Fashionz.co.nz Feature: Widdess At Air NZ Fashion Week
Widdess’ first solo show, entitled Faded with Affection, was feminine and beautifully detailed, with a vintage feel. Inspiration was drawn from an old chocolate box full of buttons, thread, three faded felt bambis and half finished pom-poms.
Fabrics were often subtly crushed or textured, and tailored to the female form. Silk, tweed, velvet, wool and a touch of
linen were used through the collection. The colour palette consisted primarily of black, with deep tones complimenting
the looks such as teal, purple, green and shades of brown.
Floral and foliage prints in earthy tones were used, occasionally with a dash of gold added for a glamorous effect.
Roses were a feature, and looked charming mixed in a black and white polka dot silk on feminine blouses.
A strong silhouette was created with folds and pleats in fabrics. Skirts were often high at the waist, a trend shown
throughout Fashion Week, in heavy tweeds and wool blends. Frocks had three-quarter length sleeves, V-necklines, flowed
from under the bust, and were adorned with intricate buttons.
Great jackets included a bomber in plum and black check textured fabric, and a collarless ink coloured coat made from
linen with buttons along the arms, back, and front. Georgina Baker jewellery complimented the collection beautifully
with delicate doily brooches.
