‘A is for…’ an Astounding Array of Narratives
What do Antarctica, Albert Einstein and Architecture have in common? They’re the next round of topics up for discussion in the New Zealand Book Council’s latest literary series, A is for….
The Elegant Universe of Albert Einstein
Thursday 5 October, 6.00pm-7.00pm
Leading New Zealand scientists Matt Visser and Paul Callaghan and historian Lesley Hall, will be discussing the big ideas in science, including the lifespan of the universe and relativity, based on the collection of essays in The Elegant Universe of Albert Einstein (2006).
Tickets: $10 Book Council members, $12 students/unwaged, $15 non-members.

As part of New Zealand Architecture Week, leading architecture and design critic Douglas Lloyd Jenkins will be examining what works in design, and what doesn’t, with Victoria University’s Senior Lecturer on Interior Architecture, Christine McCarthy.

In the Ice of the Beholder
Wednesday 8 November, 6.00pm-7.00pm
Recipients of the Artists to Antarctica programme, poet Bernadette Hall, composer Gareth Farr and novelist Laurence Fearnley, will be comparing their experiences of Antarctica with scientists Peter Carey and Craig Franklin, as they discuss how this last frontier has inspired them.
Tickets: $10 Book Council members, $12 students/unwaged, $15 non-members.
