Dr Ian Prior in conversation with Marcus Boroughs
Sunday 24 September, 11am
Luncheon Under the Ash Tree presents the private art collection of Wellingtonian Dr Ian Prior and his late wife Elespie. Showcasing such major names as Colin McCahon, Toss Woollaston, Ralph Hotere, John Drawbridge, Evelyn Page and Milan Mrkusich, the collection has arisen from the Priors’ support and passion for New Zealand art and through their personal friendships with many artists. In this very special event, Dr Prior shares his memories of building the collection with Elespie, recounting stories of their experiences with artists. Dr Prior is joined in conversation by Marcus Boroughs, Director of Aratoi – Wairarapa Museum of Art and History. 
PUBLIC ART PANEL DISCUSSION
Chaired by Tommy Honey, panellists include artist Elizabeth Thomson and architects Ron Sang and Christopher Kelly.
Sunday 24 September, 2pm
On the final weekend of the Elizabeth Thomson and Guy Ngan exhibitions, we pull together a panel of opinionated commentators, architects and artists for a lively discussion about the making and siting of public artworks. What are the commissioning processes for public and private art? How often do we get it right? What are the incentives for developers to embed public artworks in new buildings? How do artists get treated in all of this? Has architecture replaced sculpture? Where does art fit within urban design? What’s the best way to get the best work?
