‘101 Must-Do’s For Kiwis’ – New Zealanders to decide
The AA has launched its 101 Must-Do’s For Kiwis domestic tourism campaign today and released the list of 101 activities that every New Zealander must experience in their lifetime.
101 Must-Do’s For Kiwis aims to put New Zealand back into the holiday plans of New Zealanders, increasing the number of Kiwis holidaying at home. It is the largest domestic tourism initiative ever undertaken in New Zealand. In addition to print, radio and television advertising, the $2 million campaign encourages New Zealanders to vote online for their favourite 101 Must-Do’s and share their own holiday experiences. Kiwis participating in the AA campaign can go in the draw to win a new 2007 Holden Viva, $20,000 of petrol vouchers and over 30 travel prizes.
“We live in an amazing country and there are so many wonderful places and activities to experience – but what are the greatest?” says AA Tourism General Manager Peter Blackwell.
“The 101 Must-Do’s list contains a few surprises, such as stopping at the Hundertwasser public toilets in Kawakawa. There’s also the iconic and well known experiences like visiting Parliament and seeing the Beehive, or seeing a snow covered Mt Cook.”
“Some of our Must-Do’s will be more popular than others. We want people to tell us what they think of the 101 list. We want them to tell us what has been left off the list that should be there, and to tell us the very best experiences they have had in New Zealand.”
“It’s now up to Kiwis to rate each of the 101s and to share their favourite experience. We want people to send us their very best holiday photos and we have created a fantastic new interactive website to do all that – everyone should jump online and have a go.”
Visitors to the website, www.aatravel.co.nz, can locate each of the 101 Must-Do’s using an interactive map, blog their experiences and upload their favourite holiday photos. The website also features the top ten Must-Do’s as voted by Kiwis.
“Kiwis have until early next year to vote for their favourite 101 Must-Do’s. That way people can visit as many of the experiences as possible in the months leading up to Christmas and over the summer holidays. The top ten Must-Do’s as voted by Kiwis will feature in a 2007 television series.”
“What should every Kiwi experience in their lifetime? Is it Stewart Island, the Sky Tower or sipping wine in Marlborough?” says Mr Blackwell.
The 32 Regional Tourism Authorities nominated local experiences for the 101 Must-Do’s list. The AA’s 101 Must-Do’s For Kiwis campaign is in partnership with Holden and supported by BP, American Express, Budget Rent a Car, THL Rentals and Attractions, Interislander, Real Journeys, and i-SITE.
