42 Below Cocktail World Cup – Daily Nips: Friday
The last of the 42 BELOW Cocktail World Cup Extreme Cocktail Challenges took place today, as 42 bartenders from the
planet’s best bars climbed aboard Queenstown’s famous Shotover Jets to put a new spin on how to shake a cocktail. With
the grand final shake-off happening tomorrow (Saturday 16th) at Earnslaw Park, the pressure was definitely on - and
those bartenders suffering from the night before looked even more nervous at the prospect of 360-degree turns in a
fast-moving jet.
A full bar was set up on the banks of the Shotover, which included unusual spirits such as paan liqueur from India and
New Zealand’s own titoki liqueur, and the bartenders were given carte blanche to create a cocktail. This was then served
to the judges on board the Shotover Jet. No lids were allowed for the shakers, meaning more than a few contestants ended
up wearing their own creations.
The Extreme Cocktail Jet Challenge was won by the South East Asian team - Rotchanda (Rose) Kotama, Pitshinee (Bo)
Prasanwutthikul and Keith Krsna Nair. Their incredible winning cocktail consisted of 42 BELOW Passion, titoki liqueur,
apricot liqueur, grapes and lemongrass.
In second place, just one point behind, was North East Asia, with a cocktail made up of SOUTH Gin, absinthe, paan
liqueur and palm sugar. In third place was UK2, with a fabulous 42 BELOW Feijoa and lemongrass creation.
The highest placed New Zealand team was the NZ ProFlow Mixers, who placed 5th, behind Australia North in 4th place.
The bartenders now come together one last time, for the grand shake-off worth 85%, which kicks off at 2pm tomorrow at
Earnslaw Park. The winning team will take home the 42 BELOW Cocktail World Cup.
