It’s time to get drawing again. The inaugural National Drawing Award in 2004 proved hugely successful highlighting the depth and skill of drawing practice in New Zealand. New Zealand’s two leading independent contemporary art spaces, Auckland’s ARTSPACE and Christchurch’s The Physics Room, are pleased to announce that the National Drawing Award is back.
Entry forms for the National Drawing Award 2006 are now available for download from the ARTSPACE and The Physics Room websites, or can be collected from the galleries. The competition is open to anyone with an artistic practice who lives permanently in New Zealand or has New Zealand citizenship. Drawings must be A4 size (210mm x 297mm), unframed, accompanied by an entry form and only delivered by post to ARTSPACE before Friday 13 October 2006.
All entries will be exhibited at ARTSPACE and The Physics Room. The winner will be selected by a jury of contemporary art professionals - Brian Butler (Director ARTSPACE), Heather Galbraith (Senior Curator, City Gallery Wellington) and Danae Mossman (Director, The Physics Room) - and announced at ARTSPACE’s opening on 1 December 2006. The audience will decide on the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced 26 January 2007 at The Physics Room.
The 2006 prize pool includes a total of $5000 cash and other giveaways. The judged winner will also have a publication co-produced by the two galleries.
