Renaissance Sets New Benchmark in Animation
Screenline Cinema in association with Magna Pacific will release the animated film Renaissance in New Zealand cinemas on
October 19, 2006. The film will have a limited release and will screen exclusively in Auckland at The Rialto in
Newmarket, in Wellington at the Paramount and in Dunedin at the Academy Cinema.
Renaissance, set in Paris in the year 2054, is brimming with incredible art and animation – the result of over four
years’ production and a budget of 15million Euros – Renaissance sets a new benchmark in feature animation and conceptual
design. Using cutting edge Motion Capture/animation technique, often used in video games, and more recently in the
cinema with Robert Zemeckis’s Polar Express, allows the complete recording of all the suppleness of the actors’
movements and then to apply them on the virtual characters in three dimensions. This technique allows a quality of
animation that is very advanced and realistic.
A visual tour de force that pays homage to George Orwell’s 1984, Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner and Frank Miller’s Sin
City, director Christian Volckman has created a dark, provocative masterpiece in this film-noir science fiction
thriller.
When a beautiful and talented young scientist, Ilona Tasuiev, is violently kidnapped, a tough Parisian street cop,
Karas, is assigned to the case. No ransom demands have been made, and the clock is ticking. As Karas begins to piece
together the clues with the help of Ilona’s sister, Bislane, he uncovers a web of intrigue and conspiracies that lead to
Ilona’s employer, the megalithic Avalon Corporation, and a secret that could change the future of humankind forever.
The film stars the voices of Daniel Craig (Tomb Raider, Casino Royale, Road To Perdition), Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of
the Caribbean, The New World) and Catherine McCormack (Braveheart, Spy Game).
