Queenstown to Host Gay Time with Gay Ski Week NZ
Around 450 men and women are expected to arrive in Queenstown later this week for Gay Ski Week NZ - the Southern Hemisphere's biggest gay and lesbian alpine party.
Established in 2003 by Queenstown resident Mike Sanford, Gay Ski Week NZ 2006 offers an array of on and off mountain events from dance parties to drag shows to mountain picnics, wine tours, cabaret and, of course, skiing.
"Queenstown is perfect for this event. The names Queenstown, Camp Street, Shotover Street, Man Street - all fabulous gay-friendly and collectively housing an internationally renowned gay friendly destination with more than 100 bars and restaurants to enjoy."
Gay Ski Week NZ opens with the GayQueenstown.com Welcome Party this Saturday (September 2) and will wine, dine, ski, dance, adventure and sing its way through to a goodbye brunch on the following Saturday (September 9).
Highlight events include Sunday's Cadbury Pinky on the Peak picnic at Coronet Peak, the Ski-Bum after party at Bezu where revellers will go direct from the skifield to the dance floor, a special idol style Karoke night at SKYCITY Casino and the 42BELOW White Out featuring internationally renowned DJ Alan Thompson Ministry of Sound at the Dux de Lux on Friday September 8.
The event is to be based at Mercure Grand Hotel St Moritz where a help desk, après ski drinks each evening and several events will be hosted over the week.
Each day, the Gay Ski Bus will transport skiers and snowboarder to and from Mercure Grand Hotel St Moritz to the skifield of the day.
