Best Stand Awards - Scallop Festival

Published: Tue 29 Aug 2006 02:37 PM
Hi Everyone!
For those that missed the best stand awards on Sunday we're delighted to announce this years winners!
The quality of the food and wine and beers matches this year was simply superb. We had some of NZ's top food writers attending and their feedback was extremely complimentary.
Last year, we had one award which was hotly contested, with OPC taking out top honours, closely followed by the Mercury Bay Area School, Omara's and Cathedral Cove Macadamias.
No guesses then who took out the four categories this year!
OVERALL BEST STAND
Went to Cathedral Cove Macadamias. Their macadamia crumbed scallops were so popular they served up over 1500 dishes, thats a dish every 12 seconds! Well done to Brian, Sue, Hamish, Justin and team and a huge thanks to these guys - they've been spreading the word about the festival everywhere they go in their Mobile-Mac! They were closely followed by OPC who were once again the hub of the festival shucking scallops non stop through the day.
BEST DISH
Went to Omara's Restaurant & Bar from Matarangi. Their scallops flamed in midori with strawberries and coconut went down a treat for all those lucky people who got to perch themselves in the most primo spot of the festival overlooking the Whitianga Harbour! Well done to Andrew and his team!
BEST COMMUNITY STAND
Went to Mercury Bay Area School. Food and nutrition teacher Sue- Huntleigh Smith and her team of year 12 students (aided by principal John Wright) once again did an amazing job catering to the huge crowds on the day!
BEST MONTEITH'S AND FOOD MATCH
Went to Cathedral Cove Macadamia's for their Macadamia crumbed scallops matched with Monteith's Golden. They were closely followed by both of Omara's matches including their Cajun Scallops with hazelnut/ago salad and garlic aioli with Monteith's Pilsner.
As for the Scallop and Chardonnay Shot stand - sorry guys there were no prizes but these superstars got the spotlight in Jaquie Brown's awesome piece on the festival last night on Campbell Live! A huge thanks to TV3 for their great coverage!
We're sure there will be plenty more treats in store next year!
All the best www.scallopfestival.co.nz
