Media Release from Millbrook Resort
International cabaret will be on the menu at award-winning five-star Millbrook resort in October as a highlight of the 2006 International ASB JazzFest.
The headline act at the International Cabaret at Millbrook on Wednesday October 18 will be multi-talented Brazilian musician Tom Lellis in his first ever New Zealand performance.
Now based in New York, Tom was described by one critic as "simply an incredible jazz singer whose richness of voice is immediately apparent". After a recent performance in Paris, another said "if Tom Lellis had been performing in earlier times, his smooth romantic vocals and matinee looks might have given 'Old Blue Eyes' a run for his money."
The outstanding singer has been building quite a reputation in the US, Europe and wherever he performs.
Witty after dinner speaker and one of New Zealand's top MC's, Jim Hopkins will be master of ceremonies for the cabaret evening, while renowned New Zealand pianist Doug Caldwell will entertain over dinner.
Doug Caldwell's musical career as professional pianist, composer and arranger, goes back sixty years, when instead of pursuing a career in classical music he was bitten by the 'jazz bug' and has since played all over New Zealand, Australia and the USA. During this time he has performed with many legendary jazz names.
Millbrook Executive Chef Stephen Mills has prepared an intimate dégustation menu with a South American flavour in honour of Lellis's first New Zealand performance, accompanied by a selection of stunning Central Otago wines.
Cabaret tickets are just $130 a head and are available from Queenstown TicketDirect on +64 3 442 3664 or from the Queenstown i-site on the corner of Shotover and Camp Streets.
Millbrook is also offering a special cabaret accommodation package at a cost of $230 per person that will include the performance, dinner, and a night in a Village Inn room with a full cooked breakfast. Bookings and further information can be made through

The 10-day International ASB JazzFest will run from October 14 to 23. The programme will showcase 150 musicians from all over the world, playing in more than 35 venues throughout Queenstown and the Wakatipu Basin.
