Kahungunu Maranga, Takitimu Karanga
Ngati Kahungunu Iwi will celebrate a week of activities to commemorate a gigantic step forward for Kahungunu whanau/hapu/iwi.
From Friday 25th August to Wednesday 6th of September, Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated will be launching some of the key strategies that will move us closer to achieving some of our 25 year goals.
The Te Reo and tikanga Strategy will be launched at Omahu Marae on Friday 25th August followed by the launch of our Housing Strategy on Monday 28th. Ngati Kahungunu Iwi Incorporated has worked with the HB District Health Board to set up a Maori Relationship Board. This board will be introduced to the community at a powhiri on Tuesday 29th at Waipatu Marae.
The Kahungunu Asset Holding Company will be making its debut with the launch of its Investment Strategy and public introduction of the Directors.
A Hui A Iwi will be held at Waipatu Marae on Friday 1st September at 1.00pm, where Te Ohu Kai Moana will present Ngati Kahungunu Iwi with the 'Kahungunu Fisheries Treaty Settlement allocation'. To cap off this wonderful day, the first performance by Kahurangi of the epic journey of the Waka Takitimu to Aotearoa will be staged at the Municipal theatre in Napier.
All these activities will be rounded off with the Wataingi Tribunal hearings of the WAI 262 Flora and Fauna claim at Waipatu Marae from Monday 4th of September.
These events may seem to be dwarfed by the magnificence and ceremony of Te Kingitanga and the passing of Te Arikinui Te Atairangi Kaahu but we do not have the cultural depth, political influence or the economic strength to dare compare. The timing for this Kahungunu week has been a gentle reminder of the great legacy that has been left for us by the many people who have now passed on, to continue in the quest for Maoritanga.
