Th'Dudes get themselves another tour
In 1980 Th'Dudes played their final gig. Now, after 26 years, Radio Hauraki has persuaded Peter Urlich, Dave Dobbyn, Lez White, Ian Morris and Bruce Hambling to reunite.
At a lively press conference today it was announced that Th'Dudes, Hello Sailor and Hammond Gamble will play a theatre tour from October 2 14 to celebrate the station's 40th anniversary.
Hello Sailor and Hammond Gamble will perform acoustic sets with a full band, reflecting their recent album releases, while Th'Dudes will close the show with a full electric set.
A power failure during the press conference provided the perfect, unplanned opportunity for Hello Sailor to plug the new album 'When The Lights Go Out'.
Asked by a young journalist if they would be trying to attract a more youthful audience or only playing to their Œold cronies', Dobbyn quipped, "We're not ageist" and Graham Brazier of Hello Sailor suggested they should send out fliers and tour schools.
Since Th'Dudes last toured in the 70s much has changed - old haunts have been knocked down; the rider now includes sophisticated red wine and a good cuppa; they have matured as musicians.
Tickets are on sale on Friday, August 25 from Ticketek and Ticketdirect.
