Casio Becomes Official Watch to the Adventure Racing World Series
August 16: Japanese watch Casio has become the official watch of the Adventure Racing World Series on the eve of the fourth Adventure Racing World Championships in Sweden.
ARWS Director Geoff Hunt says he is delighted to have the support of Casio which is such a prestigious international company.
"Casio's products are a great fit with the sport of adventure racing. The company's significant sponsorship will provide management teams in all the events in the series, as well as the World Championships, with a range of watches for a range of situations."
The Adventure Racing World Series is an international circuit of premiere adventure races representing seven countries and creating a 12 month calendar of professional events.
The series events are XPD - Australia, Ecomotion/Pro-Brazil, Bimbache Extreme Andulucia-Spain, Explore Sweden-Sweden, The Bull of Africa-S.Africa, Bergson Winter Challenge-Poland, Wilderness ARC-Scotland and Southern Traverse-New Zealand.
All the events are qualifiers for the Adventure Racing World Championships which was set up in 2003 and is held in one of the participating countries each year.
Casio watches will also be offered as prizes to adventure racing competitors competing in the series events and the World Championships.
As official watch sponsor Casio is already widely promoting its association with adventure racing and Hunt says the new sponsorship deal can only bring a lot of benefits.
"We are working with Casio to develop strategies to promote and publicise their involvement with the world series. The company is very committed to the sponsorship which is reflected in the top line watches and other equipment they are providing."
A spokesman for Casio says they are equally pleased with the links they are developing with adventure racing.
"We are very excited to be associated with such a high profile event as adventure racing at this international level. We are aware that Casio will get very good exposure from its partnership with the Adventure Racing World Series and we are looking forward to developing the relationship."
The 2006 Adventure Racing World Championship will be held in Sweden and Norway from August 16-23 which will be the first event Casio is associated with.
The 800km race is being staged in Sweden and Norway and will traverse above the Arctic Circle. Leading Scandinavian teams from Sweden Norway and Finland will take on other international adventure race teams from Europe, the UK and the USA.
Twenty countries are represented and the runner up in the 2005 World Championship, Nike Powerblast which is a mixed American/NZ team, will defend its title. Kiwi Richard Ussher, who was part of the winning Balance Vector team in 2005 which has now disbanded, is racing in the Nike team.
Nike is expected to face a strong challenge from the Swedish teams Team Bjurfois and Lundhags as well as Team Finland racing on their home turf. Team Golite/Timberland which is a USA/NZ/ Sweden mixed team will be a strong contender as will the American team Spyder.
