Dress-up as your favourite celebrity
Fancy yourself as a bit of a celebrity? Well this Sunday (13 August) you can dress-up as anyone famous from Andy Warhol
to David Beckham, and get free entry to the Cecil Beaton: Portraits exhibition at the Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o
Waiwhetu.
Beaton photographed some of the most notable celebrities of last century – Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Pablo
Picasso, Grace Kelly, the Marx Brothers, Fred Astaire, Coco Chanel, Winston Churchill, Marlon Brando, Mick Jagger and
Elizabeth Taylor.
Sunday’s Celebrity Look-Alike Day is an opportunity to dress as someone from Beaton’s era or today, get to view the
popular Beaton exhibition for free and then gather at 2.30pm when diva songstress Janice Gray and comedian Jon Gadsby
will judge the best "celebrity". The winner receives a $100 voucher to spend in the Art Gallery Shop.
Comedian Patrick Duffy, who will MC the event, says this is a great opportunity for everyone to dress up and have their
moment in the spotlight, experiencing the glare of the glitterati. “It will just be like the life and times of Cecil
Beaton.
“Imagine David Beckham rubbing shoulders with Greta Garbo or Marlon Brando talking with Harry Potter – I can’t wait to
see who appears,” he said.
One of Beaton’s muses, Marilyn Monroe, will also make a guest appearance.
