Auckland’s Jayne Thomas has been crowned New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year 2006 after taking out the Supreme Award at
the prestigious L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards, at the Aotea Centre on Saturday night (29 July).
Announced during a night of glitter and glamour, style and substance, Jayne was chosen from seven other Supreme Award
finalists wowing the judges with an entry of strong geometry and vibrant femininity reminiscent of Vidal Sassoon’s work
in the ‘70s.
Leading UK-based stylist and L’Oréal Colour Trophy guest judge Guy Kremer says Jayne’s look displayed brilliant and
beautiful hair colour and an exquisite attention-grabbing cut.
“The work stands out for its total image, bringing together cut and fashion colour in a fresh new shape that is very
adaptable to the market.
“From what we have seen in this great competition, the New Zealand hair industry is up at international level with
Paris, New York and London,” Mr Kremer says. “Any of the looks today can grace any international magazine.”
Jayne says winning this award has been the result of months of hard work and anticipation.
“It’s absolutely surreal. This is the highest accolade I could have ever wished for. I’ve been in the industry for 32
years and this award is an acknowledgement for all the hard work over the years. It’s a dream come true!”
Runner-up in the Supreme Award was Lauralee Nolan from Ainsleys Hair Design in the Auckland suburb of Remuera.

Three other individual awards were also announced, two of which went to Auckland hairdressers. The Young Colourist Award
went to Natasha Andrews from Servilles Chancery while the Couleur Pour Hommes Award (colour for men) was presented to
Mana Dave from Maelstrom Hairdressing in Onehunga.

The Salon of the Year - Servilles Mission Bay

The Salon of the Year Award went to Servilles Mission Bay and four special awards were also announced including the
Make-Up Artists’ Award, Photographers’ Award, Hairdressing Magazine Award and Fashion Magazine Award.
In the hours leading up to this evening’s event, the 20 individual finalists went head-to-head to re-create the look
submitted in their original photographic entries. Along with Guy Kremer, Canadian Anna Pacitto and Toni Australia managing director Dennis Langford, judged the finalists ‘live’ and selected the winners.
L’Oréal Professionnel general manager Anya Haarhoff says she is rapt with the vibrancy and creativity displayed by the
winners.
“Each year, we continue to be blown away by the high standard of entries and winners. It shows that diversity, ingenuity
and style are alive and well in our industry.

L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards are renowned for being the most prestigious in the hairdressing industry, encouraging and
rewarding stylists who push the boundaries of creativity.”
More than 1,200 of New Zealand’s leading hairdressers, celebrities and fashionistas celebrated the Award winners in
style. Hosted by Mikey Havoc and Jaquie Brown, the stunning production featured avant garde hair, make-up and fashion
shows from Lonely Hearts Club, Jimmy D, Cybéle, IPG, Caroline Church and Trelise Cooper.
